Experience is the number-one most important factor to consider when choosing your wedding photographer and not just how much experience, but what kind of experience.
Here’s what to look for and to ask about:
How much experience as a professional photographer does he or she have?
This is so important because the more years shooting, the wider the variety of conditions the photographer has had to shoot under - and produce good photos!
Is the photographer an experienced photojournalist? The best wedding photographers are. They have strong story-telling backgrounds that come from working at newspapers or magazines where the demands for good photography are high.
Have they worked as an assistant or as a second photographer to an established pro? On the job training is a great teacher for learning the specialty of wedding photography.
Non-professional, or enthusiast/hobbyist experience, just doesn’t count because there isn’t a customer to please.
